REPORT: Exchange of accusations between Central Inspection and general financial inspector

Head of the Central Inspection Judge George Awad revealed Saturday that he requested from Prime Minister Tammam Salam to relieve him of his duties.

“We are characterized by out neutrality and we refuse that any political party interfere in any case whatsoever,” he stated.

He also said that the case of the waste crisis is not at the Central Inspection, but at the cabinet’s table.

For his part, General Financial Inspector Salah al-Danaf responded to Awad’s statements, stressing that a number of documents was sent to interrogate the Director General of state-owned telecom operator and internet service provider Ogero Abdel Menhem Youssef.

Meanwhile, “We Want Accountability” activists staged a sit-in outside the Central Inspection offices, to protest against what they called “failure of the central inspection to hold accountable all those who have been making deals to steal public funds.”

The activists added that the inspection committee’s failure to convene facilitates the theft of the public funds related to the waste crisis.

The civil society group said that they will be heading to the Grand Serail to continue their protests and call on Prime Minister Tammam Salam to urge Judge George Awad to carry out his duties.
