Lebanese novelist wins Arab Booker Prize

Lebanese novelist Rabih Jaber won the Arab Booker prize for his novel “Druze of Belgrade- the life of Hanna Yaacoub” published by the Arab Cultural Center and House of Literature.

Jaber’s novel takes place in the second half of the 19th century and is centered on Hanna Yaacoub who was exiled to Belgrade instead of a Druze man. Hanna was exiled along with a group of people for the Druze sect following the events of 1860, and so begins his journey that lasts 12 years filled with hardship before his return to Lebanon.

This is the first time that a Lebanese novelist wins this acclaimed award.
