Hariri to LBCI: A new president will be elected in April
Former Prime Minister and Future Movement leader MP Saad Hariri voiced on Thursday optimism that the election of a new president will take place next April.

He also reaffirmed his commitment to supporting Marada leader MP Sleiman Frangieh’s candidacy for the presidency, adding that he reiterated such stance to Foreign Minister Gebran Bassil during his visit to Bayt al-Wasat.

Hariri also said that the election of a new president is the key to resolving the country’s problems and crisis.

Hariri’s comments were made during an interview with LBCI’s Kalam al-Nass talk show whereby he called on for the swift election of a new head of state.

Lebanese lawmakers failed on March 2 for the 36th time to elect a new president over a lack of quorum, prompting Speaker Nabih Berri to schedule a new session for March 23.

Hariri blamed Hezbollah for the presidential deadlock, warning of greater repercussions if the presidential vacuum continues.

As for the relation between him and Lebanese Forces leader Samir Geagea, Hariri stressed that there are no tensions between them.

He also noted that contacts are still ongoing with Kataeb party leader MP Sami Gemayel.

On another note, Hariri criticized Hezbollah’s involvement in the war in Syria and Yemen, and other countries.

He also noted that he is ready to meet Hezbollah Secretary General Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah if the meeting would serve Lebanon’s interest.

Meanwhile, Hariri urged Hezbollah to hand out the suspects in the assassination of his father ex-PM Rafic Hariri to the Special Tribunal for Lebanon.

Turning to the war taking place in Syria, Hariri reiterated that Syrian President Bachar Assad must go, adding that the Syrian regime will fall “sooner or later.”

Also, he noted that Russian president Vladimir Putin wants a political solution for the Syrian crisis.
