A Cabinet session was convened on Thursday at the Grand Serail under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Tammam Salam who pledged to discuss the issue of state security during the upcoming session.

During the session, the cabinet appointed Georges Ayda as the new Director General of the Ministry of Labor.

On another note, Minister of Telecommunication Boutros Harb said following the session that the compensations for the wheat growers were approved, adding that the implementation of the waste management plan will kick off tomorrow.

For his part, Minister of Foreign Affairs Gebran Bassil said that the results of the Diplomatic service test were taken into consideration, adding that the percentage of the successful Christian candidates is 56% out of the overall candidates.

Meanwhile, Education Minister Elias Bou Saab said that the cabinet is walking on the edge, adding that the first hour witnessed tensions, especially over the issue of appointments.

“We won't tolerate the persistence of the current situation,” the minister noted.

Prior to the session, a meeting was held between PM Salam, Agriculture Minister Akram Chehayyeb and the Tashnag Party to discuss the file related to the waste management crisis.

Chehayyeb clarified that most of the obstacles have been overcome; pointing out that some points of the trash plan will be explained during today’s session.

On another note, Tourism Minister Michel Pharaon announced that he coordinated with Economy Minister Alain Hakim over the State Security dossier.

Pharaon expressed surprise that the head of the State Security apparatus did not call for a security meeting, adding that all the submitted solutions did not lead to any results.

Health Minister Wael Abou Farour said that he will discuss with Hakim the possibility to withdraw from the market the wheat that does not meet health standards.

Yesterday, Abou Faour announced that four out of seven samples of wheat tested by the ministry at Beirut Port do not meet health standards.

In a press conference, he noted that wheat contains ochratoxin, a substance which causes cancer and Alzheimer.
