REPORT: NSSF employees suspend strike

Labor Minister Sejaan Azzi told LBCI on Friday that an agreement was reached in terms of suspending the strike that was scheduled to be held by the National Social Security Fund's staff on April 18.

The agreement stipulates the formation of a joint committee, which consists of the board of directors, the director general and the syndicate of NSSF workers in a bid to examine the staff's submitted demands.

Azzi also said that the board of directors will hold an emergency session next Monday in order for it to specify who among the members will represent it in the committee.

Earlier today, NSSF’s administration deemed the call for a week-long strike "illegal, illegitimate and declared by those who don't have any jurisdiction to obstruct work at a vital public facility."

It vowed to punish employees who abide by calls to go on strike, calling on the director general of the fund's secretariat to deduct a certain percentage from the paychecks of those who will protest.
