Top TV shows in social media announced in Cannes
On the hallowed grounds of the Cannes event facilities, a demure CEO stepped onto the soapbox of social media and preached its impact on TV shows across the globe.

During this year’s MIPTV event, a meeting for television producers from across the globe and those interested in gobbling up content for their markets, Virgina Mousler spoke of the importance of social media metrics for TV shows to a crowd hungry for the promise land of social data.

To introduce her fresh social TV analytics firm, The Wit, Mousler announced the top TV shows across the globe with the hottest Facebook buzz.

Topping the list of the most talked about shows- a scripted reality show from Germany called “Berlin Day & Night”.

“What do people like on Facebook? They like soap, they like comedy and they like reality”, announced The Wit CEO. It may sound like common knowledge, but her claims have the backing of a closely monitored database of nearly 60,000 TV shows around the world.

In second place is the French comedy show “Bref” places an emphasis on “bringing fun”, a characteristic the top two-thirds of TV shows share across 11 countries tracked by The Wit.
Facebook seems to be the go-to site for TV shows but not all social media platforms are made the same. Mousler’s research shows that scripted shows demand 75% of Facebook Likes but only manage to scrape together a paltry 28% of Twitter followers. Yet 78% of follows on Twitter are heaped onto non-scripted reality shows; An interesting insight into how people are actively using microblogging to react to unexpected events in their favorite shows and relying on the more structured community of Facebook pages for the more involved scripted shows.
