No president has done it since 1989, can Sleiman sign to save Lebanon trillions?

MP Ibrahim Kanaan announced on Thursday that the state, with all its ports, will face deep trouble in May in the event that the issue of 8.9 trillion LBP is not settled.

Kanaan told LBCI that the solution to the issue in the face of the opposition’s refusal to pass the draft law at the parliament as “an expedited item” lies in the president’s signature on the draft law after the cabinet’s approval.

Kanaan added that this prerogative was exercised by pre-Taif presidents and enabled the issuance of several laws, including the laws of public accounting and social security. However, post-Taif presidents have not exercised it, he said.
