Head of Pakistan’s Council of Islamic Ideology CII said it is okay for a man to lightly beat his wife, claiming it according to the Quran.
CII drafted a bill for a new law, which gives the right for a husband to slightly beat his wife for refusing to sleep with him, ignoring his demands or even not showering.
“These recommendations are according to the Quran and Sunnah, the prophet’s teachings. No one can dispute that,” the CII chairman told BBC.
“If a woman does not fulfil her responsibilities in marriage first you advise her, if that doesn’t work, then you consult her relatives. If that doesn’t work then you desert her in bed. If all of this doesn’t work, then light beating is allowed.”
This comes in response to a new law which legally protects women from domestic, psychological and sexual violence.
The CII declared the Parliament’s new law as “un-Islamic”, claiming it wrong.
