Poll finds rise in support in Jordan for battle against IS

A new poll shows more support among Jordanians for fighting Islamic State extremists, but also a sharp rise in dissatisfaction with the economy.

The survey by the International Republican Institute, a U.S. think tank, was published Monday.

The pro-Western kingdom is a member of an international U.S.-led military coalition against IS which controls parts of neighboring Syria and Iraq.

The poll says 80 percent of Jordanians surveyed support the coalition, up from 75 percent in 2015. Eighty-nine percent say IS a terrorist organization, the same as in 2015.

Fifty percent say the economy is bad, up from 33 percent. Only 29 percent say it's good, down from 46 percent last year.

The poll was conducted in April among 1,000 Jordanians and had an error margin of 3.5 percentage points.
