Against hate with kisses, hundreds of Berliners kiss for more tolerance and a joint Europe

Only days before the UK EU membership referendum hundreds of people met in front of Berlin's landmark Brandenburg Gate on Sunday in a Europe-wide campaign "Kisses against hate" for more tolerance and a joint Europe.

The organizers, the citizens' movement Avaaz, want to send a clear signal to those preaching only hate and division: 'Loves conquers all.'

That is why they have called on major European cities to take part in the campaign and people will be kissing, hugging and holding hands in cities like London, Paris and Rome as a sign of love and of a joint Europe, said the global campaigner for citizens' movement Avaaz, Anne Agius "We're sending a call of love to the United Kingdom ahead of the referendum in the EU. The voices are getting louder and louder who want to split us and spread hatred in our societies. And we want to show that we stand for unity and for love."

The kiss marathon was relayed from one European cities to the next via iPad, starting in Rome, coming to Berlin and being passed on to Paris, and it will end in London where the World Record of Kisses will be attempted.
