REPORT: Berri postpones election session to July 13

Speaker Nabih Berri postponed on Thursday a parliamentary session tasked to elect a new president to July 13.

Following the session, a meeting was held at the Parliament between MP Fouad Siniora, MP Georges Adwan and MP Ali Bazzi.

Positions:

For his part, MP Ahmad Fatfat said that he rejects any new Doha accord, adding that the sole solution would be the election of a new president.

Meanwhile, Kataeb party leader MP Sami Gemayel said that Lebanon became “an undemocratic country.”
Lebanon has been plunged into a presidential vacuum since the mandate of President Michel Sleiman ended in May 14 without the election of a successor.

Deep disputes between rival political parties have thwarted the elections.

Last week, The Kataeb Party announced the resignation of Labor Minister Sejaan Azzi and Economy Minister Alain Hakim from the government.
