Lebanese, Iraqis stage sit-in in solidarity with Iraq

Lebanese and Iraqi young men and women lit up candles during a sit-in on Monday night outside the museum in Beirut to voice solidarity with the Iraqi people following the recent deadly attacks.

They also raised banners of solidarity from Beirut to Iraq, saying that the Islamic State group and the Iraqi government are “two sides from the same coin.”

On Tuesday, more dead bodies were recovered from the site of a massive Islamic State suicide bombing this weekend in central Baghdad, bringing the death toll to 175 as Iraqis mourned in shock and disbelief, officials said.

The staggering figure, one the worst bombings in 13 years of war in Iraq, has cast a pall on the Muslim holiday of Eid al-Fitr, which marks the end of the holy month of Ramadan and which begins Wednesday in Iraq.
