Sukleen, Sukomi respond to claims made by Gemayel

The waste contractor for Greater Beirut responded Friday to claims made by Kataeb Party chief MP Sami Gemayel during a press conference he held one day ago.

In a statement, Sukleen and Sukomi said: “The composting plant in Bourj Hammoud has never ceased work and receives 300 tons of organic waste daily, which contradicts Gemayel’s remarks.”

“The organic waste is recycled in the Amrousieh Karantina sorting plants,” the stament added.

As for the political accusations, the firms stressed that "they do not have any links to the political class, pointing out that they adopt the principle of transparency."

The statement warned that the companies maintain their right to legally pursue anyone who defames them and their employees.

Yesterday, Gemayel said that the Bourj Hammoud landfill “will destroy people’s health.”

“Sukleen will landfill %96 of the trash collected in Bourj Hammoud landfill without sorting it,” he said during a press conference.

He also accused the company of "bribing politicians to cover up the environmental crime it committed."
