REPORT: Chehayeb discusses solutions to apple crisis

Apple farmers have had their hopes pinned on a solution that can come up and remove them from the crisis they have been facing. In Yammouneh for example, the farmers cannot wait any longer, as their apples started falling from the trees.

Accordingly, they staged protests, calling on the authorities to interfere and threatening to cut the apple trees and plant instead illegal products.

For his part, Agriculture Minister Akram Chehayeb declared Monday to LBCI that Jordan will receive Lebanese apples twenty days previous to the selected date.

However, Chehayeb stated that the focus must be on the Egyptian market, which will help in resolving a major part of the crisis if it imports 50 thousand tons of Lebanese apples.

Apple farmers have been holding protests in different Lebanese regions in objection to the current crisis deterring them from selling their products.
