REPORT: On World Day against Death Penalty: A report in numbers

On 10 October, the international community recognizes World Day against Death Penalty, which calls upon the countries that retain capital punishment laws to abolish them.

According to Amnesty International, 95% of all capital punishments take place in five countries, China being the world's leading practitioner of such a law (between 1000 and 3000 annually), followed by Saudi Arabia, Iran, Pakistan and the United States, where the convict on death row could wait up to 30 years before being executed.

As for the adopted means of execution, the ones mostly used are the decapitation, hanging, lethal injection and death by inert gas asphyxiation.
