Harb calls for adoption of simple majority, small constituencies law

MP Boutros Harb underscored to Radio Free Lebanon on Sunday the need to a true and strong majority, highlighting the importance of holding elections on time without any delay. Harb shed light on efforts exerted to modernize the electoral law, without taking proportional representation into consideration.

“The proportional system cannot be implemented in the presence of [non-state] weapons”, Harb said.

Harb considered that the best electoral law is the one based on simple majority system and small electoral constituencies.

Lebanese parties are debating the electoral law for the upcoming 2013 parliamentary polls.
