Baroud to LBCI: No vote law gives 100% apt representation

Former minister Ziad Baroud said on Saturday that there is no electoral law that gives 100% apt representation for the Lebanese people, adding that details such as the vote counting and the number of constituencies contribute significantly to the correctness of representation.

Baroud’s comments were made during an interview with LBCI Nharkom Said show whereby he noted that under the proportional vote law, the results of the parliamentary polls will not be previously known.

He also stressed that the voting process will be done through printed lists with the photos of candidates and their names on them and that to curb any cheating attempts.

Baroud highlighted the need to facilitate the voting operation for the people with special needs who don’t have to wait for long hours for their turn.

For his part, MP Michel Moussa said during a phone call with the show that deliberations over the new vote law “are positive.”

Lebanese leaders are struggling to draft a new vote law that would govern the upcoming parliamentary elections.

Deep disputes between the rival parties have thwarted the agreement on a new electoral law.
