REPORT: Berri says pay scale is not a “burden” on state’s treasury
Speaker Nabih Berri said on Saturday that the pay scale is not a “burden” on the state’s treasury, adding that many resources can fund the wage scale such as the Added Value Tax and the revenues of the Lebanese banks.

Berri’s comments were made during a meeting with media figures whereby he noted that the pay scale is “a rightful demand,” adding that he agreed with Prime Minister Saad Hariri to approve the wage scale.

“There are some concerns that the pay scale might be a burden on the state’s treasury, here we disagree,” Berri added.

He also noted that the atmosphere is “positive” in this regard, adding that the wage scale might be approved next Monday.

On another note, Berri stressed that the by-elections will take place as well as the parliamentary elections.

As for the Syrian refugee crisis, the speaker declared his support to the coordination with the Syrian government in this regard.
