Lebanon's military court sentenced Ahmad al-Assir to death by execution on Thursday for attacks against the country's army in Sidon’s Abra in June 2013.
The court also sentenced al-Assir’s brother to death.
Authorities detained Sheikh Ahmad al-Assir at Beirut airport in 2015 as he tried to leave using a forged passport. Charges against him included forming a terrorist organization and inciting violence against the army.
The Abra events left 18 army martyrs.
