Interior and Municipalities Minister Nouhad al-Mashnouq stressed that simplifying the process of registering newly born Syrians will help in organizing the presence of the refugees in Lebanon and facilitating their return when conditions for a safe return become available within international standards.
During his meeting with the representative of the UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) in Lebanon Ambassador Mireille Girard heading a delegation, the minister said that efforts are being deployed by the ministerial committee tasked with issue of the refugees in order to unify views and develop a common vision to aptly handle this issue.
For her part, Girard thanked the minister for his efforts simplifying procedures and facilitating the registration of new Syrian births, praising the ongoing cooperation with the Ministry's various departments, especially the Directorate General of Public Security.
"Everyone is enduring difficulties vis-a-vis the Syrian refugee dossier, whether at the Lebanese or the Syrian level," she added, pointing as well to the difficulties that other countries have been facing such as Jordan.
"It is known that Lebanon has received the largest number of refugees and has been positive dealing with this dossier, especially in light of the difficult situation. Therefore, support should be provided to the Lebanese population living in difficult circumstances. It is important to support the Lebanese population and the Syrian refugees alike," she added.
