President Aoun declares June 8 as a day for the martyrs of the Lebanese judiciary

President Michel Aoun declared June 8, the date in which the four judges were killed, as a day to commemorate the martyrs of the judiciary in Lebanon.

During the opening ceremony for the judicial year 2017-2018, Aoun called for reviewing the judicial system, taking into consideration the falws and gaps, in order to fortify its independence and amend its procedural laws, so it becomes more efficient.

The president noted that “delayed justice is no justice,” adding that some officials are subject to accusations.

“Why doesn’t the judiciary listen to the accused as a witness first without immunity,” he asked.

He pointed out that citizens are finding it hard to understand how some cases take years and years to be finalizes, especially the crimes documented in audio and video.
