Prime Minister Saad Hariri stressed that politics has been subject to piracy, noting that some attempts to damage Lebanon’s relations with its Arab neighbors are also a form of piracy.
Speaking during “Protecting Media Creativity from Piracy” conference held at the Grand serial, Hariri emphasized the cabinet’s readiness to take any measure leading to improve the ability to apply the laws and protect the media creativity from piracy, pointing out that protecting the media creativity from piracy is protecting Lebanon’s human capital.
For his part, Information Minister Melhem Riachi stressed the need to keep the efforts ongoing in order to pass a law on cyber-crimes, until Lebanon ratifies the international agreements for the protection of intellectual and industrial property and works of art.
He called on Hariri to work on forming a parliamentary committee tasked with protecting intellectual property.
In turn, Director General of the Internal Security Forces Maj. Gen. Imad Othman stressing that “security work has become advanced and in line with technological progress.”
“A crime, regardless of its form, remains a crime and we will be on the lookout,” he stated.
“Protecting Media Creativity from Piracy” conference was organized by the Information Minister in cooperation with the Directorate General of the Internal Security Forces and a group of leading media corporations, upon the call of Information Minister Melhem al-Riachi and Prime Minister Saad Hariri.
