British Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs Boris Johnson stressed after meeting with Lebanon’s Foreign Minister Gebran Bassil at the UK’s State Department headquarters that Britain is keen on preserving Lebanon’s stability and keeping it away from regional tensions.
Johnson’s position came as a continuation to the statement he issued regarding Lebanon’s general situation last Sunday, whereby he expressed Britain’s stance emphasizing the need to respect Lebanon’s sovereignty, stability and independence, calling on Prime Minister Saad Hariri to return without further delay.
For his part, Minister Bassil stressed that the priority remains for Hariri’s return to Lebanon where President Michel Aoun will be ready to listen to all cases he would like to raise.
Bassil added that Lebanon’s stability is linked to the stability of the region and the world, especially that Lebanon is currently dealing with several sensitive issues, such as the Syrian displacement.
