Prior to the political crisis triggered by PM Saad Hariri’s announcement of resignation, a cabinet reshuffle, mainly targeting the ministers of the president and the Free Patriotic Movement was proposed by Foreign Minister Gebran Bassil, but it never saw the light.
With the current crisis and the efforts to end it, this issue returned to the forefront in terms of introducing new ministers to the cabinet in order to reactivate its work.
This issue was tackled by the Future Movement and the FPM without reaching a final decision, pending a new meeting between President Michel Aoun and Prime Minister Saad Hariri and receiving the opinion of FM Bassil.
In case an agreement was reached between Aoun and Hariri over said issue, the reshuffling can be possible for all parties represented in the cabinet.
However, Speaker Berri does not seem to be eager for the proposal, since the cabinet has only six months before the parliamentary elections.
