Days before the resignation of Prime Minister Saad Hariri and the crisis following it, a meeting was held at the Grand Serail where Minister of Finance Ali Hassan Khalil briefed Hariri, the chairman of the Finance Committee and other officials on the draft law pertaining to the budget for 2018 that was supposed to be presented to the cabinet.
The crisis that lasted a month delayed the referral of the project to the cabinet for discussions.
21 recommendations for reforms were certified by the Parliament during its study of the 2017 budget and are supposed to be adopted to decrease expenditure and to end waste.
