Publisher of An-Nahar and veteran politician Ghassan Tueni dies at 86
Former MP and publisher of An-Nahar newspaper Ghassan Tueni passed away on Friday at dawn at the age of 86.

Ghassan Tueni was born in 1926 in a prestigious Orthodox family from Ashrafieh. Tueni got his BA in philosophy from the American University of Beirut (AUB). In the 1940s, Tueini travelled to the U.S. and got his Master’s degree in political science from Harvard.

Tueni entered the Parliament at a very young age and held key ministerial positions. He served as an ambassador of Lebanon to the United Nations at the end of the 1970s and the beginning of the 1980s at a critical period marked by two Israeli invasions.

Tueni wrote thousands of editorials for an-Nahar daily. He was known for his boldness and audacity and some of the editorials he wrote caused his imprisonment.

Following his death, his grandchild journalist and MP Nayla Tueni wrote an obituary that made the headlines of today’s issue of An-Nahar.
