Secretary of Change and Reform Bloc Deputy Ibrahim Kanaan met with Minister of Environment Tareq al-Khatib on Wednesday where they discussed the outcome of the ministerial committee’s meetings concerning the garbage crisis, as well as the solutions set by the Ministry of Environment to treat solid waste.
Kanaan also said that they looked into a proposal based on administrative decentralization and on granting municipalities their own role in the matter.
He also stressed the need to negotiate the alternatives at hand and to set an implementation mechanism in order to start establishing the plants with the help of the European Union.
Kanaan reiterated that the Metn coast paid the high price of the waste crisis and suffered from extreme pollution, putting the health of the citizens in grave danger.
He noted that there was a positive response from al-Khatib concerning this matter and towards finding a solution.
