REPORT: Machnouq says ISF Information Branch used Daesh leader to discover terrorist plots

Minister of Interior Nouhad Machnouq revealed on Friday that a major security operation was done in Lebanon few months ago.

Machnouq’s comments were made during a press conference whereby he noted that the security operation spared Lebanon huge terrorist threats and lured several Daesh (ISIS) leaders.

“We were sure that there a Daesh leadership in Lebanon after we arrested a leader in the organization identified as Abou Jaafar al-Iraqi,” Machnouq clarified.

“Al-Iraqi was used by the Internal Security Forces Information Branch for a period of five months to obtain information and to discover terrorist plots,” Machnouq added.

The minister noted that the security situation in the country ‘is under control to the highest degree.”
