Chairman and CEO of the Lebanese Broadcasting Corporation International (LBCI) Pierre Daher told LBCI on Friday that there “is an atmosphere prevailing in the country that opposes any sort of freedoms.”

Daher’s comments were made outside the Justice Palace in Baabda where talk show host Marcel Ghanem is scheduled to appear in court.

“We, as Lebanese people, must put an end for such attempts that are beginning to resemble very much what was happening in the days of the Syrian presence,” he added.

Last November, Ghanem was charged with contempt of court and obstruction of justice for criticizing Lebanon 's judiciary and Justice Minister Salim Jreissati during an episode of his talk show.

Two Saudi guests hosted during the show criticized top Lebanese officials, including President Michel Aoun and Speaker Nabih Berri.
