Sleiman: Receiving refugees from Syria is a humanitarian duty
President Michel Sleiman declared on Friday Lebanon's commitment to humanitarian and democratic values, including public freedom, fighting terrorism, denouncing violence and extremism - All of which are under the protection of the Lebanese Army.

During his meeting with a delegation from the European Union in Baabda, Sleiman hoped that dialogue between the Lebanese will continue, noting that Monday’s session will witness progress in discussing the agenda’s items.

Sleiman revealed that the participants in the national dialogue agreed on two major points: first, distancing Lebanon from the repercussions of the situation in Syria; second, rejecting the establishment of a buffer zone that might be used as a crossing point to smuggle weapons.

On Syrian refugees, "Receiving refugees from Syria into Lebanon is a humanitarian duty," Sleiman said. He stressed that once the situation returns to calm, all refugees will return to their country.
