Bassil: We are not involved in any suspicious acts

Caretaker Minister of Foreign Affairs Gebran Bassil asserted on Monday that statements about the naturalization decree target the Lebanese identity and nationality.

Bassil’s comments were made during a press conference whereby he noted that any collective naturalization is "rejected" and any individual naturalization that resists settlement is "accepted."

“The last campaign has clear goals which are to target the President and his tenure,” he added.

Bassil questioned why the campaign did not target Prime Minister-designate Saad Hariri and Interior Minister Nouhad Machnouq who signed also on the decree.

He concluded by asserting that the Baabda Presidential Palace and the Foreign Affairs Ministry have nothing to do with any “suspicious acts.”
