The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) told LBCI that it always respects the individual decisions of the Syrian refugees to return to their home country, reiterating that it does not object any decision made individually, since it is within their rights.
The agency said that when the refugees express desire to return to Syria, it tries to follow up on their preparations and offer help to meet their needs, for example if they needed official documents like birth certificates, marriage certificates or even death certificates.
The UNHCR also stressed that it respects the policy of the Lebanese government, saying that integration is not a choice for the refugees in Lebanon, emphasizing that it is not seeking to integrate the refugees.
In this context, the agency explained that the main goal is to find sustainable solutions for the refugees outside Lebanon, in the form of resettlements in a third country or the return to Syrian under international criteria.
