Berri adjourns parliamentary session due to absence of key party

Speaker Nabih Berri called Tuesday on the Parliamentary Office Committee to convene on Thursday afternoon in Ain al-Tineh.

Berri earlier adjourned the morning parliamentary session due to the absence of a key party, stressing that the adjournment is based on political, not sectarian, motivations.

Change and Reform bloc, Kataeb party, Lebanese forces and Achrafiyeh bloc MPs decided on Tuesday to boycott the morning parliamentary session.         

The boycott comes in protest of the approval of granting tenure to EDL contract workers.

In this context, Change and Reform bloc MP Alain Aoun explained that the decision to boycott the parliamentary session comes in protest of the way public affairs are being managed.  

In turn, MP Sami Gemayel said that boycotting the parliamentary session is “not directed against anyone, but aims at organizing the democratic life inside the Parliament”.         

In turn, Future Movement MP Nabil De Freije stressed that the Christian MPs boycotted the session in protest of the vote counting process.  

After the session was adjourned, Development and Liberation Bloc MP Ghazi Zeaiter stressed that granting tenure to EDL contract workers is a rightful demand, confirming the solidity of his bloc's alliance with the FPM.

In turn, Future Movement MP Mohammad Qabbani stressed that the withdrawal from the session was a “mistake” since differences should be settled through negotiations.
