US beefs up military presence in the Gulf
The U.S. has beefed up its military presence in the Gulf to prevent the closure of the Strait of Hormuz and to be able to strike Iran in case of a major crisis, the New York Times reported on Tuesday.

This step aims at reassuring Israel that the United States is taking Iran’s controversial ongoing nuclear program very seriously and also aims at ensuring the freedom of movement of oil tankers, the newspaper said citing a high-level source at the Pentagon.

The official pointed out that “the message addressed to Iranians is as follows: Don’t even think of closing the Strait of Hormuz because we will plant mines. Don’t even think of sending powerboats to bother our warships or commercial ships because we will capsize them.”
