While Syria has seen decreasing conflicts since mid-2018 as government forces continue to advance, the country still faces multiple challenges in its economic recovery and national reconstruction following over seven years of crisis.
As more and more Syrian cities like Aleppo, Damascus and the southwest region are enjoying days without the dark cloud of military conflicts hanging over the skies, some businessmen have returned to resume operations in their plants and workshops.
From 2017, the Syrian government has also made multiple efforts to present the relatively stable situation in the country, so as to attract foreign investments to help with the huge task of national reconstruction. One such drive was the holding of the 59th Damascus International Fair in August 2017 after a gap of six years, an event which gathered exhibitors from 43 countries. That was followed by the Damascus International Flower Festival in June, which returned after being suspended for eight years, in the hope of restoring tourism.
Nevertheless, the outlook remains grim with various problems lingering after years of turmoil.
