President Aoun meets Swiss President in Baabda

President Michel Aoun reiterated on Monday Lebanon’s stance regarding the return of Syrian refugees to the safe zones in their homeland.

Aoun’s comments were made during a joint press conference with the visiting Swiss President Alain Berset at the Presidential Palace in Baabda.

“Lebanon welcomes the Russian initiative regarding the return of Syrian refugees and I asked the Swiss president to support this step,” Aoun added.

For his part, the Swiss President said that his country is “fully aware of the challenges that Lebanon is facing due to the crisis in Syria.”

He also praised the Lebanese "solidarity and generosity" in hosting Syrian refugees, stressing the continued support to Lebanon at this stage.

The visiting president also said that safe conditions must be provided for the return of Syrian refugees and a political solution for Syria must be searched for.

He concluded by saying that he is adamant on consolidating the friendship between the two countries, voicing hopes that a new Cabinet would be formed soon.
