Sleiman: the region’s events require better democratic performance

Lebanese President Michel Sleiman said on Saturday that the democratic transitions taking place in the region require that Lebanon improves its democratic performance, in order to benefit from this climate.

Sleiman told ministers that these climates give Lebanon an opportunity to take back its pioneering role in the region, as an educational, cultural, medical and social focal point. He added that it has become necessary for the democratic regimes, in this world of globalization and openness, to involve all the social components in the management of public affairs.

On another note, Sleiman regretted the incidents and deaths in Wadi Khaled, and called the concerned security apparatuses to be informed of the results of investigations. The president took the necessary measures to prevent the death of civilians regardless the reason, since “the citizens’ safety and security are the top priority of officials”, he said.
