Caretaker Finance Minister Ali Hassan Khalil stressed Monday that they have committed to the law in submitting a quarterly report on the state’s public finances to the parliament.
In a series of tweets, Hassan Khalil noted that this measure must reflect the need that everyone should be subject to the rules of accountability and monitoring, pointing out that the financial and economic facts that were presented require the serious structural measures within the state’s administration within the framework of a clear plan that clearly identifies faults and required moves.
“The first step is a political commitment in the adoption of financial, economic and administrative directions and policies,” he added, stating that the most important thing is “the commitment of the political and parliamentary forces to the rule of law and institutions and the respect for the supervisory, inspection and judiciary bodies.”
The minister also emphasized that “the ministries should not be considered independent states for each team, as if the discussion affects the political bloc of the minister.”
On the circulating rumors stating that the solution to the housing loans crisis can be resolved by increasing the taxes and adding a 5,000 LBP fee to the gasoline price, Hassan Khalil stresses that no new taxes will be passed in the 2019 Budget draft law, stressing that raising the gasoline prices is off the table.
