Lebanon misses discussions of oil explorations in the Mediterranean Sea

Experts and specialists from Israel, Cyprus, Turkey and European Union support held a conference where they are discussing whether the natural gas that Israel is claiming to have found in its regional waters is a base for collaboration between the concerned countries, or it will turn into a reason for a war in the region.      

The discussions are held in an attempt to find peaceful solutions for the existing conflicts between Israel and Lebanon, and between Turkey and Cyprus. The talks came after Israel has refused to halt gas exploration in the disputed regions.                    

According to the Israeli, the efforts are being deployed in order to find an agreement formula that would be acceptable for both Lebanon and Israel.                        

Despite the tension prevailing over the relations between Israel and Turkey after the attack on Marmara ship, Turkish representatives arrived to Tel Aviv to participate in a special conference to discuss the above-mentioned issue. The conference was also attended by representatives from Cyprus and the European Union.                  

The participants agreed on the need to reach an agreement which turns the natural gas found in the Middle East’s waters into a wealth that benefits all the parties.        

For its part, Turkey considers this matter as a very complicated issue requiring a long period of time to be resolved.            

The joint efforts came at a time when new research showed that the possibility of the existence of huge amounts of gas in this region grows when the explorations are extended to the north.                  

However, the Europeans said that the natural wealth in this area is in the interest of all the countries, as they expect large financial benefits that can bring peace to the region.
