Aoun at UN: Lebanon is searching for a way to overcome successive crises
President Michel Aoun asserted on Wednesday that Lebanon “is searching for a way to overcome the successive crises that hit it.”

During his speech before the United Nations General Assembly in New York, Aoun also tackled the Syrian refugee crisis.

“Our country tried as much as it can to ensure decent living conditions for the displaced; but their huge numbers and their repercussions on the Lebanese society made it impossible for the country to continue shouldering this burden," Aoun stressed.

Aoun also reiterated Lebanon’s stance that seeks “to consolidate the right of a dignified, safe and sustainable return of the displaced to their homeland.”

“We refuse to link this issue with a political solution in Syria, and we refuse any settlement project,” he added.

On another note, Aoun also highlighted that the Israeli violations for resolution 1701 are still ongoing “despite Lebanon’s full commitment to it.”

He also tackled the dire need for a dialogue of religions, cultures and ethnicity and to establish International cultural institutions that are specialized in spreading the culture of dialogue and peace.
