After the debate caused by Thursday’s issue of An-Nahar newspaper published in blank pages, the paper’s Editor-in-chief Nayla Tueini said that they are raising their voice today to point out that the situation has become unbearable, stressing that they are trying to appeal to the officials’ conscience. “An-Nahar’s pages today represent the people who are suffering,” she said.
In a press conference held at An-Nahar’s building, Tueini said that Lebanon is going through one of the most dangerous phases, noting that “the blank pages are a different way to express our feelings as a media institution towards this disastrous situation in the country.”
She also announced the slogan “A White Day Against Darkness,” hoping to sound the alarm over the seriousness of the current crises, adding that the interaction created by this initiative proves the importance of the media’s role.
Tueini called on the politicians to form a cabinet as soon as possible, explaining that the crisis is not only affecting the media, but all the sectors in the country.
She denied reports stating that An-Nahar newspaper will close, stressing that they are pursuing their mission on paper and online, despite all the crises in the country.
