Kardel meets Hariri, says unity Cabinet is “essential”
Acting United Nations Special Coordinator Pernille Kardel asserted on Wednesday that she wished Prime Minister-designate Saad Hariri success in his efforts to form a new national unity Cabinet which is “essential for the stability and continuity of the country’s state institutions.”
“The Cabinet will also enable Lebanon to take full advantage of the road map of the International support set during the Rome, Paris and Brussels conferences last year,” she added after meeting Hariri in Bayt al-Wasat.
On another note, Kardel said that the implementation of Security Council Resolution 1701 was discussed during the meeting, voicing hopes that the new Cabinet would remain committed “to meeting Lebanon's international obligations.”
She concluded by stressing that the UN will continue to work closely with Lebanon to support its “stability, sovereignty and authority.”
