President Michel Aoun stressed Thursday Lebanon’s keenness on boosting the relations with Italy on all levels, noting during his meeting with Italian PM Giuseppe Conte at Baabda presidential palace, that Lebanon has faced terrorism and managed to defeat the terrorist groups that attacked the Lebanese territories. He stressed that Lebanon does not interfere in the conflicts between other states.
President Aoun emphasized that the cabinet will work on overcoming the economic crisis that was caused by several factors, including the repercussions of the Syrian displacement, calling on the European countries to understand Lebanon’s position calling for the safe return of the Syrian refugees to stable regions in Syria.
Aoun also noted that Lebanon is committed to the UN resolution 1701 and is coordinating with the UNIFIL to maintain stability and security in South Lebanon.
In turn, PM Conte stressed that Italy will always stand by Lebanon.
He congratulated the president on the formation of the new cabinet, emphasizing that his country will continue its support for the security and stability in South Lebanon, through its contribution to the UNIFIL.
