The Council of Maronite Bishops praised Wednesday the necessary and essential measures in the budget draft law, pointing out at the same time the lack of a comprehensive economic and social policy and a plan that guarantees economic growth, reduces deficit, ensures public debt service and allows an enough financial platform for permanent investment, through eliminating corruption, ending waste of public funds, fighting tax evasion, collecting the state’s revenues and improving administration.
During their monthly meeting, the bishops called for speeding up the approval of the budget law, at a time when many have warned against general collapse, stressing the Lebanese citizens have a natural and constitutional right to belong to a state that preserves their dignity and freedom, while providing them with the required services.
On the issue of the refugees, the Maronite bishops called for unity, solidarity and coordination with the concerned authorities in order to facilitate their return to their homeland.
