The Lebanese government offers subsidies to the electricity sector amounting to around $2 billion.
Lebanon has more than 1.5 billion electricity meters, which means around 1.5 billion bills.
But if the state were properly collecting these bills, it would have significantly reduced the deficit suffered by Electricite Du Liban.
The problems causing this deficit are poor bill collecting, network manipulation and errors in billing.
