Bassil says environmental pollution is not dissociated from political corruption

Foreign Minister Gebran Bassil stressed that the environmental pollution is not dissociated from political corruption, deeming it hard to fight.

Representing President Michel Aoun in Beirut Environment Conference 2019, Bassil stated that those who sign licenses for quarries and crushers must be stopped and not those who build dams. “The quarries cartel would not have existed if it weren’t for the political protection,” he noted.

The minister explained that the environmental reform is more expensive than any other reform, pointing out that protecting the environment with and diverse methods lead us to think about preserving Lebanon’s natural resources.
