MPs cited Speaker Nabih Berri at Wednesday’s deputies gathering as saying that “once the budget draft law is approved by the cabinet and referred to the parliament, positive effects will be witnessed in several sectors.”
He also called on the finance committee to intensify its meeting to review the budget, adding that if needed, the parliament will hold two sessions per day in order to pass the budget law in less than a month.
Concerning the meeting with US Assistant Secretary of State for Near Eastern Affairs David Satterfield and the discussions related to the demarcation of the land and maritime borders, the deputies quoted Berri as saying that the atmosphere is positive and heading in right direction. “This is the result of the unified Lebanese position that preserves Lebanon’s rights and oil reserves,” he stated.
During Wednesday’s gathering, the issue of waste within the mobile operator companies currently on the table of discussion of the parliamentary telecom committee, Speaker Berri stressed that the follow up on this matter must continue until the end.
Earlier in the day, Berri had received Satterfield and tackled with him the latest developments in Lebanon and the region, with discussions focusing on the demarcation of the land and maritime borders.
Separately, Berri chaired the meeting of the Development and Liberation bloc, where the general situation was discussed, with focus on electoral law and the outcome of the bloc’s recent meetings with other political bloc.
