Foreign Minister Gebran Bassil stressed that Lebanon has been bearing the burden of the Syrian displacement, noting that the most dangerous thing is the attempts to turn this displacement into a permanent residence. “This is what we refuse and our experience with the Palestinian refugees is proof,” he said.
Addressing Spanish Speaker during their meeting in Madrid, Bassil asked assistance in returning the Syrians to their homeland, instead of encouraging them to stay by offering them assistance.
“The only solution is their return to Syria and transferring the money spent on them in Lebanon to be used to serve their return,” he explained.
The minister pointed out that Lebanon can be a mediator for Spain with the Arab states.
