IMF delegation after meeting Khalil: We hope budget will be approved as soon as possible

Finance Minister Ali Hassan Khalil met Monday with a delegation from the International Monetary Fund headed by Chris Jarvis, with discussions mainly focusing on the economic and financial situation in Lebanon, as well as the recent developments concerning the budget and the reforms it includes.

Jarvis hoped that the Parliament would approve the budget as soon as possible and be able to reduce deficit up to 7.6% as expected. He added that this would help free the funds that Lebanon needs from the Cedre Conference.

In turn, Hassan Khalil said that the IMF report on Lebanon’s monetary and financial situation is expected to be released mid-July, adding that this will greatly affect the assessment of the situation, stability, and the classification of Lebanon, especially that all international organizations have welcomed the measures taken within the budget of 2019.
