MP Tony Frangieh declared Sunday that Adwi landfill has been closed without finding an alternative, noting that the dumpsite was not perfect but was a temporary solution.
In a press conference held to tackle the waste crisis in Zgharta and Ehden, Frangieh stressed that they rely on the central authority to declare an environmental state of emergency, calling on the president, speaker and prime minister to guarantee the necessary credits and lands to resolve the waste crisis.
“Every time the presidents of municipality federations and mayors try to find solutions, they get blocked by obstacles that hinder their projects due to political interests,” he stated, pointing out that he has recorded phone calls proving clear political intervention.
“Should the obstructive practices continue, we will act differently and the crisis will backfire on its creators,” he warned.
